Letters, telegrams, and cards of condolence on the death of his wife, Georgina De Brylkine Childs, from United States, French, and other friends. Also included are a draft of his memoirs entitled "Between two worlds," a novelette, "The Survivors," and 2 U.S. State Dept. reports on the Dept. and the North African Invasion during W.W.II. In several letters of A.L. Paddock to Childs, 1965, there are comments on Paddock's meetings with Sir Wiston Churchill, and Lyndon B. Johnson.

James Rives Childs was born February 6, 1893 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended the Virginia Military Institute before graduating from Randolph-Macon College in 1912, then earned a master of arts from Harvard University in 1915.
